Plastering Competition

Plasterers apply plaster, cement and other substances to the exterior and interior of buildings. These building professionals work on both new and existing buildings, applying plaster to walls and ceilings to give interior spaces a finished look. Plasterers also repair and restore old plastering work in existing buildings. Their job may also involve the creation of interior and exterior architectural details that enhance the overall look of a building’s facade or interior space.

The WorldSkills Australia Plastering Competitions are aligned to the CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package (Release 9.4).

Regional Competition

Training Package Requirements – Regional Level

The WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition in Plastering is aligned to the following units of competency (Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria) contained in the CPC31211 Certificate 3 in Wall and Ceiling Lining (release 3) Qualification:

  • CPCCCM1015A – Carry out measurements and calculations
  • CPCCCM2001A – Read and interpret plans and specifications
  • CPCCCM2006B – Apply basic levelling procedures
  • CPCCPB3012A – Cut and fix paper-faced cornices
  • CPCCCM1014A – Conduct workplace communication
  • CPCCPB3008A – Mix plaster compounds
  • CPCCPB3009A – Finish plasterboard joins manually

Regional Tasks

Competitors are provided with a drawing and work on a pre-assembled steel stud wall lined with fibrous plaster and plasterboard, to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Set plasterboard joints to manufacturer’s specifications (three coat system)
  • Fix and finish metal angle beads in the appropriate areas
  • Fix paper-faced cornice to the three walls with all mitres finished to industry standards
  • Demonstrate professional care with wastage, cleanliness and overall job appearance

National Competition

Training Package Requirements – National Level

The WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Plastering is aligned to the following units of competency (Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria) contained in the CPC31211 Certificate 3 in Wall and Ceiling Lining (release 3) Qualification:

  • CPCCPB3001A – Fix standard plasterboard wall sheets
  • CPCCPB3002A – Fix standard plasterboard ceiling sheets
  • CPCCPB3003A – Fix Battens
  • CPCCCA3015A – Assemble Partitions
  • CPCCPB3010A – Manually sand plaster work
  • CPCCSP3005A – Install pre-cast decorative moulding

National Tasks

Competitors are asked to construct their own work modules that will be lined and finished using plasterboard and fibrous plaster. Competitors work on steel stud and track lined with plasterboard.

Tasks include:

  • Work from a drawing
  • Build the steel stud wall to (Rondo) manufacturer’s specifications
  • Set all plasterboard joints to manufacturer’s specifications (three coat system)
  • All features set out to drawings, install beads and finish to manufacturer’s specifications
  • Beads to be fixed correctly level and plumb.
  • Cornice must be fixed and finished to three walls with mitres balanced and mirror imaged, or running pattern
  • Wastage, cleanliness and overall job appearance
