Joinery Competition
A joiner is a tradesperson who specialises in joining wood together to make furniture like bookcases and tables, windows, doors, trusses, stairs, and any other items that involve joins. He or she works on commercial and residential projects, and is usually based in a workshop but often undertakes installations in the homes of customers and on building sites. Making joints requires specialist machinery and hand tools. A joiner will produce and interpret drawings, set out and measure, cut and form joints, and assemble, install and finish commissions to a high standard.

Regional Competition
Training Package Requirements – Regional Level
The WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition in Joinery is aligned to the following units of competency (Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria) contained in the CPC31912 Certificate 3 in Joinery and CPC32211 Certificate 3 in Joinery (Stairs) Qualifications:
- CPCCCA2011A – Handle carpentry materials
- CPCCCA2002B – Use carpentry tools and equipment
- CPCCCM1012A – Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
- CPCCOHS2001A – Apply OH&S requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
- CPCCCM2001A – Read and interpret plans and specifications
- CPCCCM1005A – Carry out measurements and calculations
- CPCCCM1003A – Plan and organise work
Regional Tasks
- Interpret drawings
- Draw, set out skills
- Set out on project material for construction purposes
- Use materials economically
- Demonstrate effective time and production scheduling

The WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Joinery is aligned to the following units of competency (elements of competency and performance criteria) contained in the CPC31912 Certificate 3 in Joinery and CPC32211 Certificate 3 in Joinery (Stairs) Qualifications.
In addition to the regional requirements the National also includes:

- CPCCJN3004A – Manufacture joinery components
- CPCCJN2001A – Assemble components
- CPCCSH3005A – Apply and trim decorative finishes
