WorldSkills Australia is looking to invigorate the Skills Show with fresh faces, new energy and talent.
With the WorldSkills Australia National Championships taking place within the Skills Show, our promotion of excellence extends to the way we work and collaborate with our volunteers.
5 x reasons why you should volunteer
- Recommendation from a nationally recognised not-for-profit
- Hands-on experience on the ground at a major event
- Introduction to industry connections
- Impressive experience on your CV
- Community connection with WSA’s wider network.
When you volunteer at the Skills Show, your role will be matched to your personal strengths and land you in a spot where you can truly shine and show – and develop – your skills.
Whether you’re on the competition floor or guiding visitors through the ICC Sydney, you’ll be in contact with leaders from over 30 different fields and industries.
You’ll receive a reference from an internationally recognised event – an impressive indicator of your commitment to working hands-on at a major event to make the Skills Show happen.
You become a part of the WorldSkills team, where opportunities are boundless.
You’ll get access to online community portals so that you can stay in touch with fellow volunteers, as well as access information about upcoming event and participation opportunities.
We aim to recognise your efforts beyond just the Skills Show, and encourage you to remain involved with the organisation as a part of our wider WorldSkills family.

Qualifications / Certificates / Licenses
This application should be completed in one continuous session. Please ensure that prior to commencing your application you have the following documents on hand and can upload them.
Will my meals during shifts be provided?
How long will I need to be there for?
There will be two 6 hour shifts per day, over a total of seven days, and you will need to commit to at least one shift. It depends on your own availability too, so just be clear if there are other commitments that you have and in most cases, we will be able to accommodate you.
How do I get to the ICC Sydney?
You will need to arrange your own transport. If you are attending with a group, we recommend carpooling to reduce costs. The ICC Sydney is in Darling Harbour and easily accessible by public transport. View additional information about travelling to the venue.
Do I need any previous experience to be considered for a role?
Not necessarily, although it may be helpful to have some understanding of the workings of a major event. Being able to use your initiative to ensure that all your tasks are completed efficiently, and being willing act as a helping hand to the event coordinators, is extremely desirable.
Can I still volunteer if I’m not from Sydney?
Yes, we welcome your application. However WorldSkills Australia cannot cover travel and accommodation costs, so these will need to be arranged by you, or your school or organisation.
What kind of information will I be given prior to the event?
You will be contacted by the WorldSkills Australia Volunteer Coordinator with instructions on how to access our training materials online, and given key dates of any mandatory training with as much notice as possible.
Will I get a reference?
Yes, after the event we will provide you with a written reference. If you require sign-off for your TAFE course please let your volunteer supervisor know, and they will be happy to do this.
