Five minutes with…Taylor Armstrong

While only in her first year of a hairdressing apprenticeship, Taylor Armstrong has already proved she has what it takes to be a WorldSkills winner, “It was a really fun and great experience trying something new but coming out with a win when I never expected it!”

Taylor is a hard-working apprentice hairdresser at Morrow & Co Hair in Booval, Queensland. When describing what she loves most about her trade, Taylor says, “experiencing and learning new things, but also working somewhere that is enjoyable.”

Currently studying hairdressing through a school-based apprenticeship at Bremer TAFE, Taylor competed in a regional competition against other VETiS hairdressing competitors, successfully securing the gold medal in her region.

Hairdressing is a skill that runs strong in Taylor’s family, “Tabatha Coffey is my Auntie and is very known and big within the hairdressing industry. As a child I’ve always love doing hair, but having Tabatha as my Auntie has really inspired me to achieve as high as she has. I also have a few family friends who are hairdressers who I also look up to,” she says.

To prepare for the National Championships, Taylor is practising at every opportunity she can, “I’m practising my up- styling and working on my skills,” she says.

Taylor is looking forward to the National Championships and the chance to demonstrate her skill on the national stage, “I’m very excited to be experiencing this opportunity.

I want to do my best and enjoy the experience – have fun while doing it but also give it my all,” she says.
