Five minutes with…Jake Buttigieg
Hardworking and loyal, third year apprentice plumber Jake Buttigieg is passionate about his trade, “Plumbing is vital in everybody’s way of life, plumbing is a necessity to keeping people healthy and well. My job is so important to society,” Jake explains.
After receiving gold at the regional competition, Jake has been working hard to further develop his skills, “I train every week, I’ve been training to the previous competition and practising my pipe bending and silver soldering and soft soldering. I know with enough practice and guidance I can achieve anything I set my mind on,” he says.
Currently completing his Certificate 3 in Plumbing and Draining at TAFE NSW Mount Druitt, Jake has always had an interest in a pathway in trade and skills, “I used to work in excavations and a plumber worked there also. I helped him do a bit of plumbing and I really loved it and he encouraged me to pursue plumbing as a career. Starting my apprenticeship was the best decision I have made!”
Jake is looking forward to competing at the National Championships and doing his region proud, “There’s nothing better than excelling in your trade – being the best in your trade would be life changing! I am hoping to take gold for my region (Sydney West), my family, myself and my future,” he says.
