Five minutes with…Ethan Linsley

Ethan James Linsley is determined and passionate about his career in Carpentry, Building & Construction, so much so he set up a home workshop in his garage! “I have used this space to train as much as I can to fit in with my work schedule and the schedule of my mentors,” says Ethan.

In his senior years of high school, Ethan completed a traineeship in Carpentry as part of his HSC. He excelled at the creative and physical elements to building, and it was there he realised he could do this as a career long term given the multiple avenues being a builder provides. He worked alongside many builders during this time who offered him full-time positions within their companies once he had completed his HSC. Ethan says that these builders strongly influenced his decision to pursue this trade as a career after seeing their passion and the enjoyment they get from their job.

After receiving his gold medal at the Regional Competition last year, Ethan realised he had gained many new skills along the way. “This was the first time I had competed in a competition for my industry. This competition allowed me to better my time management skills and experience working in an environment under pressure. I am so happy this experience gave me new skills that are applicable in in my trade and even my everyday life,” he says.

Ethan hopes to go on to become a job site supervisor in the company along with completing both certificates lll and lV, and one day own his own building company.

Ethan says he is proud to be representing his region and now he can finally put his hard work and the knowledge and skills he has acquired during the training leading up to this competition into play, “I would not have been able to be representing my region without the support of my mentors and family, so I am looking forward to making them proud!”
