Five minutes with…Eden Hill

Eden Hill explains what it means to be competing at 2018 National Championships in June, saying “I feel honoured representing Sydney and NSW,” further commenting that “representing my trade is very special to me, as landscape construction offers so much to a person”. Eden is aiming to “take in the whole experience, make new friends and make a mark on the WorldSkills community.”

Eden is currently employed by Cornerstone Landscaping and completing a certificate 3 in construction landscaping at Ryde College. Eden was attracted to landscaping due to the variety the trade offered, “it was my decision to leave school early and pursue a career in landscaping on the grounds of being able to learn such a vast area of skills,” explains Eden.

The day to day variety landscape construction work offers has furthered Eden’s passion. “The massive variety of work that we do such as; stonework, bricklaying, concreting, timber work you name it,” comments Eden. Eden reveals what brings the most enjoyment from landscaping “the rewarding feeling you get when you do a quality job and having the ability to create something amazing with your hands for you and your clients to enjoy.”

Eden’s experience at the 2017 Regional Competition “was a tough, fast-paced day with a number of challenges and hurdles that needed to be overcome” says Eden. In preparation for the National Championships, Eden explains “I have been expressing specific areas to my boss that I want to approve upon to make me a better competitor for WorldSkills and staying after hours at TAFE to train with my competition partner and mentor.”

“Disciplined, ambitious and focused” are the three words that best describe Eden. Looking to the future Eden’s goals are to; win at WorldSkills National Championship, become a supervisor and “help Cornerstone become a more successful company (more than it already is) and long-term start my own company” Eden explains.
