Five minutes with…David de Lange

David de Lange, is heading to the National Championships for the first time and is looking forward to seeing where the competition will take him. “I’m ready to have fun and further improve my skills and see where it takes me,” he says.

David is in his fourth year at TAFE Orange, completing his certificate three in Mechanical Trade. He is employed by Midpro Engineering & Irrigation in Forbes NSW, as a Fitter & Turner. David became interested in engineering from growing up on the farm “fixing and building farm machinery,” he says. Long-term, David is hoping to join his passion for agriculture and engineering, explaining, “I want to fill the link between agriculture and engineering, with the plan of repairing and designing agricultural equipment.”

Commenting on his time at the 2017 regional competition, David says it was “challenging but rewarding, and a great opportunity to showcase the skills I have learnt from TAFE and Midpro.” In preparation for the National Championships David has been working every day at his employment and extra workshopping sessions at TAFE Orange, all whilst balancing his other commitments.

David describes himself as “innovative, honest and hardworking.” On what it means to be representing his region at the WorldSkills National Championships, David says “I feel very proud and excited – I’m committed to do my best and a bit nervous.”
